SECTION ONE — CORE PRAYER STRUCTURE

What Prayers Are  Prayers are Class Skills representing a cleric’s deepening relationship with their divine patron. They are not spells and do not consume spell slots. A Prayer ability modifies how the cleric channels divine power — not the structure of the spell itself but the relationship through which it flows. The same distinction applies to fighter Prayers: they are martial gifts from a divine source, not techniques the fighter developed through training alone.

Rank Structure  Each Immortal’s Prayer path has five ranks: Temporal, Celestial, Empyreal, Eternal, and Hierarch. These map to divine authority levels within the Immortal hierarchy. Individual abilities within a rank may be acquired independently — a cleric need not possess all abilities in a rank before accessing the next. Each ability costs one skill slot and requires a devotion period (1 day / 3 days / 1 week / 2 weeks / 1 month respectively).

Cleric Access  Clerics may access Temporal rank from 1st level. Celestial opens at 3rd level (requires 1 Temporal ability). Empyreal opens at 7th level (requires 1 Celestial ability). Eternal opens at 12th level (requires 1 Empyreal ability). Hierarch opens at 18th level (requires 1 Eternal ability).

Fighter Access  Fighters of 9th level or higher who are formally inducted into a divine order may be taught Prayers by a cleric of sufficient rank. Fighter access follows the same rank structure but at higher level gates: Temporal (9th), Celestial (12th), Empyreal (18th), Eternal (24th), Hierarch (36th). A teaching cleric of at least one rank above the prayer being taught must instruct the fighter during the devotion period. Fighters retain all standard Fighter abilities alongside Prayer capabilities.

Multiple Simultaneous Effects  When a cleric activates two or more Prayer abilities simultaneously, the casting finishes at the end of the Melee phase, after all other actions in the round have resolved. Single Prayer effects use standard casting rules. All intended Prayer effects must be declared at the start of the round — interruption during a multiple-effect casting wastes all effects and spell slots.
