Silver Tongue Motes: The Arcane Orator
This ability allows a magic-user to enhance their persuasive abilities with magic, subtly influencing the minds of others. All ranks require a successful Charisma skill check; failure results in the loss of the effect.
Penny Rank (Foundational Charm)
- Rule: This rank establishes the core ability to use the skill as a substitute for a Charisma check in social and charm-based magical situations (e.g., enchanting items with social effects, learning new charm spells).
- Skill Check: The skill bonus is added to the caster’s base Charisma score for the purpose of this check (e.g., a caster with CHA 16 and +1 to Silver Tongue would use a score of 17).
Baccara Rank (Minor Charm)
- New Spell: The caster learns the 1st-level spell Charm Person.
- Usage: You can cast Charm Person once per day without using a spell slot. The target’s saving throw is opposed by your Silver Tongue Charisma check, rather than a fixed penalty.
Sovereign Rank (Somatic Suggestion)
- Skill Bonus: Your skill level for Silver Tongue increases by +1.
- Rule: The Verbal component of any spell with the Charm descriptor you cast can now be replaced with subtle, non-verbal somatic gestures.
Ducat Rank (Persistent Influence)
- Skill Bonus: Your skill level for Silver Tongue increases by an additional +1.
- Rule: Any Charm spell you cast that has a duration measured in “turns” (e.g., 1 turn) adds 1d4 turns to its duration (rolled at the time of casting).
Crown Rank (Day-Long Charm)
Limitation: A caster can only have a maximum of three spells active with this mote at any time. Casting a fourth spell with this mote applied will immediately cancel the very first of the previously cast Crown Rank effects.
Skill Bonus: Your skill level for Silver Tongue increases by an additional +1.
Rule: The magic-user can re-learn any 1st and 2nd-level Charm spells (non-instantaneous/permanent duration) to have a permanent effect for the entire day.
