Singing: This is the ability to sing in a skilled manner; a character can make his living with this skill and (if he is good enough) can become a famous entertainer or bard.
🎤 Racial Variants #
| Variant | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Dwarven | Subterranean Bass | Dwarves utilize “throat singing” that resonates in the chest. These low-frequency drones can be felt as much as heard, often used to keep rhythm during mining or to make a small group sound like a massive legion. |
| Elven | Ethereal High-Note | Elves possess a range that extends beyond human hearing. They weave melodies that sound like “glass breaking” or “stars shining,” creating an atmosphere of otherworldly beauty that can leave listeners in a trance-like state. |
| Gnomish | Linguistic Patter | Gnomish singing is incredibly fast, filled with puns, rhymes, and tongue-twisters. It is less about melody and more about a dizzying display of mental and lingual agility that leaves audiences breathless. |
| Dragons | Harmonic Resonance | Due to their unique anatomy, some Dragons can produce two notes at once. This “internal harmony” makes their hymns sound like a choir even when singing solo, often used for solemn religious ceremonies. |
🗺️ Regional Variants #
- The Opera Virtuoso (Metropolitan/Urban)
In the grand theaters of the city, singing is a Display of Power.
- Specialty: Projected Volume. They are trained to fill a massive hall without magic. They can use their voice to shatter thin glass or be heard clearly over the roar of a crowded marketplace, ensuring their message (or distraction) reaches everyone.
- The Lowland Balladeer (Rural/Agricultural)
In the farming heartlands, singing is a Memory Bank.
- Specialty: Oral History. Their songs are essentially sung encyclopedias. They can use this skill to recall local legends, genealogies, or ancient warnings that have been “hidden” in folk songs for generations.
- The Siren of the Reefs (Coastal/Island)
In maritime cultures, singing is a Warning System.
- Specialty: Atmospheric Echo. They know how to bounce their voice off water and cliffs to create an “omnipresent” sound. They can make it seem as though a song is coming from everywhere at once, disorienting sailors or luring targets toward a specific shore.
- The Tundra Chanter (Arctic/High Altitude)
In the thin air of the mountains, singing is about Conservation.
- Specialty: Low-Oxygen Endurance. They have mastered a technique of singing that requires very little breath. They can hold notes for minutes at a time, a feat that appears supernatural to those not used to the altitude, often used to signal across vast valleys.
Design Tip: If a character has both Music and Singing, consider allowing them to “Harmonize.” If they succeed on both rolls, the audience’s reaction moves up two stages (e.g., from Indifferent to Friendly) instead of one.
