Glantrian Coins

Table showing the Glantrian denominations and values of their coins.

Currency of Glantri

The monetary system of Glantri is under the tight control of Council officials, with minting primarily managed by the Dukes and Archdukes.

Standard Coinage:

  • Golden Ducat (dc): The standard gold coin, its value comparable to a foreign gold piece. It is minted in the capital at the Citadel of Glantri.
  • Platinum Crown (CR): A heavy, magical platinum coin worth 50 ducats, typically reserved for large transactions.
    • Minting: Each Crown is minted within a specific principality (at the local capital or prince’s palace) and bears the face of the respective prince.
    • Magical Property: Each coin has a permanent magical dweomer that causes it to glow brightly.
    • Value: If the magic is dispelled, the coin’s value drops dramatically to only 5 ducats (its metal value).
  • Silver Sovereign (sv): A silver coin worth one-tenth of a ducat. It is twice the thickness and weight of a standard foreign silver piece.
  • Black Baccara (bc): A billon coin (an alloy of silver and bronze) minted by the Belcadiz and Erewan principalities.
    • Appearance: The coin has a distinct black color that wears to a reddish tint on the edges.
    • Composition: The exact mixture of silver can vary.
  • Copper Penny (cp): A large copper coin with a value equivalent to five foreign copper coins.
  • Electrum: This alloy is not minted in Glantri.
